Scott Mortensen Makes First Cut for DFA Endorsement! Whoo-hoo!
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 02:34 PM by katinmn
Congratulations, Scott!

Starting next Tuesday, Sept. 13, progressives all over the country will be invited to vote for candidates to receive the first 2006 DFA-List endorsement. The endorsement includes a national email appeal from DFA's Chair Jim Dean. This is a very big deal and a great shot in the arm for progressive campaigns.

Next week Democracy for America will host an online vote to determine which congressional candidate will receive the first 2006
DFA-List endorsement. The vote will be open to all challengers and
open seat candidates. The candidate with the most votes at the end
of balloting will receive a DFA-List endorsement and a national
email appeal from DFA's Chair Jim Dean. This gives campaigns national exposure, and an opportunity to recruit online activists
and raise much needed resources to get campaigns off the ground.

The voting will take place in two stages. First, an online vote will be held to narrow the field of 30+ candidates that have applied
for DFA's endorsement down to 10 candidates. A second round will be held among those 10 candidates to determine DFA's first 2006
endorsement.

Please help me keeped this kicked, guys, so we all remember to vote next Tuesday.

3. I'd like to see that SoS candidate, Mark Ritchie, considered
Arguably, having someone in charge of the voting in the state may be as important as having another US Rep.

Mark Ritchie should replace Mary Kiffmeyer.

From his website:

"I am running for Secretary of State in Minnesota because our democracy needs champions.

"Over the past two years I had the opportunity to lead the NOVEMBER 2 Campaign, one of the largest non-partisan voter mobilizations in our nation's history. This experience made me passionate about fostering fair and honest elections and restoring the public’s trust in our entire election system.

"As part of this campaign we worked with some of the most creative and dedicated election officials in the country to overcome a number of the problems that voters face, including here in Minnesota. At the same time, it was an opportunity to see some of the unfair and unethical practices of highly partisan officials who created barriers to discourage participation.

" Too many people are still being denied the right to vote and even more are worried that their ballots are not being properly counted. The well-being of our democracy depends on having people with integrity in the Secretary of State's office."

I have heard him speak, and have been very impressed.

4. Maybe somebody nominated him.
Election fraud is an issue here in MN, although a lot of people want to deny it.

There are some very suspicious voting numbers when you look at results from past elections. Funny things like many districts having the exact same numbers of Rethug votes cast. Just like in Ohio!
