This post brought on by the recent warm weather. I did manage to ride through our rather mild Winter....

2. Spring is here!
Some friends and I are going to brave a camping trip this weekend, as long as we don't get too much rain that is.

I got a bit of sunburn last Sunday at a beer and bbq party.

3. I'm ready to play baseball!
(Okay, I'm ready to watch overpaid professional athletes play baseball while I lounge on my couch or in a seat at the Dome) - Hey but I'm ready for my nephew's little league season too start and at least then I get some exercise lugging my lawn chair to the correct diamond.

Put me in coach!

7. Sounds like a good package
Those games ought to be very competitive.

My son's freshman (HS) team has its first game next Thursday (Bert Blyleven's birthday - and the day before mine!)

9. Good god! Where is the snowy photo from?
Spouse is going later today on the first ride of the year, the Hiawatha club, I think.

Personally, I prefer higher temps and drier roads :-(

11. The "snowy photo"...
...is at the end of Summit Ave in St Paul where it dead ends at the Mississippi River. There is a cool scenic overlook there.
It was taken in Feb of 2006. Feb was very mild with daytime temps in the 20's.
Its really not so bad once you find the clothing that is right for you.
I'm not a hardened Minnesotan acclimated to frigid temps.
I'm a fairly recent immigrant from New Orleans (5 years) more comfortable with blistering temps and high humidity.
I rode comfortably into the bottom teens, and only missed trying single digits because we didn't have any (in the afternoons).
People downhill ski in those temps without problems.
The real secret is NOT to overdress, but carry extra layers if needed.

I also recommend studded bike tires if you want to get off the beaten path.

Cheers!

12. Spring is here!
The lake ice is going to be gone any day now, which means bicycling season to me. (I am a wimp about biking in the slush, ice and cold temps, I admit it!)

I just have to curb the enthusiasm and do only one lake (3 miles) the first day to break in my seat again.

14. I started dreaming about riding my bike ....
six weeks ago.

I'll bet the trails at a nearby regional park are clear by now. Thanks for the reminder!
