Bachmann in the lead? Who is best to defeat her, if she wins?
Who do you think is best equipped to take her on if she should win the nomination? Patty Wetterling or Elwyn Tinklenberg? Tinklenberg has support from Oberstar, Peterson, Sabo, and McCollum. Not to mention John Kerry, Barrack Obama and the DCCC gang. I know Oberstar is kind of a conservative Democrat, but he also endorsed Becky Lourey, whom I am supporting. Perhaps he is a man with good taste? Tinklenberg is not as much of a right winger as I once thought, and I was fully prepared to support him.

Then Wetterling came back into the picture. She did pretty good last time and with this year being an open seat it is with in her grasp.

Both are abiding by the endorsment, both have a good war chest built up as well and some county conventions are happening this weekend.

Who do you thing is in the strongest position to win and why?

1. Wetterling
She was my close second choice when she was in the Senate race. She is finding her "political feet" so to speak. She is a moderate person and relates to the St Cloud corridor and most importantly is her name recognition.

I am not sure Bachmann is really in the lead. Somewhere below is a right wing blog post which tears into the Bachmannites by being single minded and destroying the regional GOP from the inside out from Bachmann/anti-gay marriage zealotry.

3. The Nice Lady vs. the Mean Lady...I likes our chances
I must agree with you, though: it's far from certain that the Republicans will even nominate Bachmann. More and more, I have the feeling that Bachmann's unnatural obsession with gay marriage is a millstone around her neck that will eventually sink her. I think Republicans are sensing it, too - and they may not want to go down with her.

2. Wetterling

The fact that Tinklenberg has the support of a bunch of members of Congress means little. They threw their support to him before Wetterling got into the race.

If Bachmann is, indeed, the GOP nominee, she won't be able to trump Wetterling with the "it's all about the children" card, or the "Mom" card. Instead, she'll have to defend her awful legislative record, her platform of bigotry, which people are tiring of, her connections to nutjobs like Phyllis Schlafly and Grover Norquist, and her history of laziness and unfair play at the capitol.

Meanwhile, here's an interesting thought:

4. BUT I must say the same thing I told her when she called me...
...which is that, if she's going to bear the standard for us, we need her to campaign HARD. There's too much at stake. We can't afford a lackadaisical campaign and a second-place finish.

I was very much impressed, of course, that she was taking the time to call supporters in person. I told her that I strongly felt that the seat had been well within reach in 2004, and just a little more oomph would have put us over the top. She said that experience has taught her much, and that I could count on her.

5. Lets hope so.
I think republicans fear a Wetterling battle more then a Tinklenberg battle.

6. She had plenty of fire in her when she spoke at our convention today...
...in Senate District 52. She was very much the candidate I've been hoping to see. Sharp, articulate, energetic and inspired. I'm much encouraged.

7. David Francis wins DFL endorsement for Bachmann's state senate seat
He should be a pretty good candidate--one who's not afraid to come out swinging against the Bachmann/Vandeveer/Dean Rapture Republicans' theocratic agenda. Francis is currently from Stillwater Township and is a retired Navy sub captain. Check him out at www.francisforsenate.com. Campaign contact information is missing there, as is a way to contribute (cardinal sins of a campaign in this day and age). Call the campaign at 651-275-1082 or e-mail at capfrancis@msn.com
