Who is out of touch on this?
On KQRS this AM, Tom Barny and his friends were all yammering about tax cuts for the middle class and rescinding cuts for the rich and saying how every politician* is "out of touch".

They're aware of the economy in bad shape, but then after talking about how people can't think past a 6th grade mindset, they continue to think like 6th graders and putting out their one-sided viewpoints as to why we have criminals and welfare recipients... (nothing to do? Well, let's do what they do in other countries: Train 'em, give 'em jobs, have them work with their God-given potential, and not only would they not only not commit crime, they in turn would help the economy! What's the problem?)

And what would Tom say about the "FairTax", if he's bleating about higher taxes? If he's having a snit fit over the gas tax, the FairTax would be exponentially more crushing. Of course, Huckabee isn't going to be the candidate, so it's probably a moot point...

He had his usual hissy fit about bloggers on the web, standards, and all - but this is the same station that's been doing snide things to immigrants (legal or otherwise), the homeless, and others. Not that I've listened between 7:30 and 9 as I'm off to work (a real job, unlike his well paid hobby to bitch and whine on the radio...).

* No word on McCain, oddly.

1. The neocons sure have their minions snowed...
back when Jason Lewis had a local radio show I remember a caller saying he supported tax cuts for the wealthy because he expected to be wealthy some day. :puke:

2. Sadly for us, Lewis is still on the radio
I have run into these people before, too, who expect to be wealthy some day.
I also have met people who think they already are in the top 1%.
A survey some years ago bears that out, 19% of the population think they already are in the top 1%.

3. It is sad. I guess I just blocked out his return to the Twin Cities.
I was referring to his AM 1500 days.

4. Your 1/2 Right
They are wrong about education. It is our obligation as a society to educate everyone up to a 12th grade level. The problem is that a lot of people don't want that education. I'm not sure what we can do about that. I'm know I don't have an answer.

Let me clarify what they said about the web. They were complaining about anonymous posters on the web. Like them or not, Tom and his crew put their name on the line every day with their statements. The bozo who goes to TwinCities.com and posts anonymous statements as facts is who they are calling out. Who is CubFan7125, no one knows or cares. I try to say responsible things but no one know who I am. I know a lot of sites let people post completely anonymously, thats ridiculous. All they are asking for is people to stand behind their statements by putting their name behind them, not an unreasonable request.

6. I have a couple theories on that... on top of more theories...
The first theory being *why* nobody wants education...

1. http://techrepublic.com.com/5208-11181-0.html?forumID=6&threadID=179848&start=0

2. People have seen the results of offshoring and do not want to ruin their own financial lives by taking out a loan to get educated on something that'll go overseas. Which is rather more than what anyone expected.

3. Indolence/addiction/et al.

4. As children/students, their "peers" mock them for wanting to study.

Somehow, 1 & 2 combined outweigh #3 by some margin. #3 has numerous causes. Nobody gives a fizzle about #4 either, as parents are too busy working to earn enough money, too lazy about raising their children right, undiagnosed disorders in children, and/or schools won't punish the bullies because it's not up to the school to be the nanny. And as children DO look up to their parents and emulate such behavior... it's a mess. A big mess. (and if anyone disbelieves me, the animal kingdom is replete with proof that the more intelligent species guard and rear their offspring. The dumb ones just eat them, or let them be eaten. A very glib response, but worth pondering about in greater detail.)

As for answers, well the worst case scenario one I know of won't work because it really isn't about education. It's greed. After all, our society is told "spend spend spend" and then is blamed for doing so, often by the people who say to spend; the mitigating factors including oil prices, belief a person will have a job for more than 5 years, and so on.

Which reminds me, what is the point OF home ownership if the job changes so frequently, they'd have to sell, relocate, or hope it sells before their credit rating is ruined?

All of this, and other elements, lend to the belief there is no tinfoil shizzle going on; it's a massive mixture of disparate problems that WILL hurt everyone unless something happens. And even if the "Amero" and the NAU are real, well it might just turn things around for the better too.

Whatever happens has to be one organized, complete swoop or else it's a load of cow pucky.
