I was bummed when I went to bed last night because Kelliher was in the lead. Great to know that lead didn't hold.

And with 99% of the precincts reporting, Dayton has a lead of 5237 but MAK still hasn't conceded. That doesn't surprise me one bit. Stay classy, MAK.

14. They probably need to wait until the Central Commiittee meeting

where they will be asked to endorse Dayton.

Per party rules, until he is the endorsed candidate the state party organization can't do much to overtly help him..... Though that didn't seem to phase the PTB with Klobuchar before she got the endorsement.

"Party Unity My Ass" group. Or maybe it would be "Party Unity (But Only If I Win)."

I read somewhere the DFL candidates had agreed they would all unite and support the winner. Apparently Kelliher forgot that little bit. Her actions (or lack thereof) today make me even happier that she didn't win. She finally conceded at, what, 11:30 or so? She waited long enough to make sure they'd have to postpone the "Unity Rally." Sour grapes, anyone?

Much as it pains me to say this, at least I can give Entenza a smidgen of credit for seeing the writing on the wall and conceding early last night. It appears Kelliher could learn a thing or two from him.

Kelliher, I can understand a bit with how close it was, but conceding is just a formality. If the official results end up being close enough, there would have been a recount whether she conceded or not, wouldn't there?

Would have been a real nice show to go ahead with the unity rally at the scheduled time. Sounds more like MAK and the DFL wanted to make sure Dayton/Entenza supporters would fall in line.

he had no choice but to concede.

MAK did wait longer than she should but I can understand while she waited until this morning. I finally gave up around midnight and Dayton had just pulled a head, but not by much so it made a little more sense to let their race go down to the wire.

If she has any plans for a future political career, she'll go the party unity route even if she has to paint the smile on her face. Minnesotans don't really seem to like sore losers and I don't think even the DFL activists who supported her would take it well if she sabotaged Dayton and we wound up with Emmer.

4. Dayton has qualities that are sadly missing in most politicians...

7. MAK carried most of the metro, Dayton made up for it in the rest of the state.

This is a good sign. Dayton has appeal in the rural areas - Emmer would have certainly slaughtered Kelliher in outstate MN; Dayton will get more votes there, will easily win the inner metro, and might just hold his own in the burbs.

In some rural areas Dayton may do well, but in many others, there were probably Emmer voters choosing Dayton as they see him as the easier of the two to beat in November. Obviously I will still be voting Dayton in the fall, but with Dayton rather than Kelliher it will be tighter than it otherwise would be.

23. Ed, the election results

as well as polling before the election show that Dayton had much greater support outside of the TC area than MAK. As much as 3-1 in the Western part of the state.

Republican hijinks can't explain it all. IMO it's in part because he's perceived as a more reliable, traditional DFLer, the kind we once were used to and want to see again.

I would have been very happy to vote for MAK in the primary, if I ever could have figured out what exactly she stood for.

12. That is a very good sign for Dayton in the general

Dayton MUST define the message - loudly and repeatedly - before Emmer defines him with simple, catchy slogans. Dems have been bad at that for decades and it is essential in this sound byte, Dancing with the Stars society.

Seriously, it is not about *taxing* the rich ... it is about FAIR taxation and being a responsible adult. I live in Minnesota, therefore I should pay my FAIR share to keep the state going. Actually, since I am fortunate and the state is in dire straits, I should pay a bit more than those less fortunate to help return the state to what it once was.

It's about FAIR and SHARING.

Giving up his Senate salary to pay for bus trips to Canada was an example that others could follow. I'm sure they played a big part in putting him over the top.
