The Republicans are running nothing but nuts in my Senate district

(SD 40, parts of Bloomington, Burnsville and 1 precinct in Savage).

All three make some kind of reference to how the Constitution should be viewed, teachers being held responsible, parents being able to choose schools, and personal responsibility.

What worries me is that there's not that much participation in the area and many voters will make their decisions on lawn signs and mailings and maybe just an anti-incumbent feeling - and we have 3 DFL incumbents.

For the Senate seat they are running Dan Hall a real nutcase minister who believes women are meant to be subservient to men and that the U.S. is a Christian country. You can bet most of his extremist views will not be widely publicized.

Chaplain Dan Hall is not a state official, nor does he serve in any official capacity. Nevertheless, his voluntary ministry at the state Capitol, which is funded by tax-exempt contributions, is enormously influential with legislators motivated by conservative Christian theologies and teachings on social issues such as abortion and gay rights. According to Lonnie Titus, the full-time official chaplain to Minnesota’s House of Representatives, who was elected by its members, “Dan serves as an issues person on the Christian side at the Legislature. He has been a rallying force for the conservative Christians, and he’s done a great job at it, too.” Titus added, carefully, “I can’t do that because I’m a chaplain to the entire House. But I’m glad Dan is here because it’s a growing need.” Indeed. According to Titus, fully one-third of Minnesota’s legislators “allow religion to play the important role in their life—Jesus in particular,” and their numbers grow with each election.

The adherence to a literal interpretation of the U.S. Constitution (:wtf: is a "literal interpretation?")

1. Why does the MN House of Representatives have a full-time chaplain?

Does the MN Senate have one too?

That was news to me.

(And not to digress from your topic, dflprincess, as they are nuts, and the Dems need to keep those seats. I do know people were doorknocking w/John Doll and for Meffert yesterday in Bloomington. I think "literal interpretation" means "whatever I, a true nut, thinks"!)
