Stop merge of Verizon & Google. FCC hearing at South High 8/19, thurs at 6pm

decisions made by the FCC over the next few months will determine whether a handful of corporations will take over the Internet. The only thing that can match the companies’ big money is big groups of people. It’s that simple.

Free Press, Main Street Project and the Center for Media Justice are co-hosting the first public hearing on the Future of the Internet on Thursday, Aug. 19.

The hearing will feature FCC Commissioners Michael Copps and Mignon Clyburn, Sen. Al Franken and Secretary of State Mark Ritchie. Here are the details:
Featured Speakers: FCC Commissioner Michael Copps
FCC Commissioner Mignon Clyburn
Sen. Al Franken
Secretary of State Mark Ritchie
Josh Silver, Free Press
amalia deloney, Center for Media Justice
Steven Renderos, Main Street Project

Community Panel: Frank Reese, Leech Lake
Chris Mitchell, Institute for Local Self Reliance
Chaka Mkali of HOPE Community & hip hop artist I-Self-Divine

Open Mic: Time for members of the public to tell the FCC how they see the future of the Internet.
Location: South High School, 3131 19th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN
Date/Time: Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, 6 p.m.

Please come to South High School on Thursday. Help us show the FCC that the American people won’t allow control of the most revolutionary communications tool in human history to be handed to the likes of Google and Verizon.
