Sept. 22 forum on Canadian oil at University of St. Thomas
Sept. 22 forum on Canadian oil, U.S. largest oil supplier, and environmental and social cost (at University of St. Thomas)

http://www.stthomas.edu/bulletin/2010/09/20/alberta-tar-sands/

Most Americans are surprised to learn that Canada is America’s single largest oil supplier. While most of this oil currently comes from conventional crude oil, in the future the largest share of Canadian oil likely will come from the tar sand fields of Alberta. The use of this resource, many environmentalists believe, comes at a heavy environmental and social cost.
A free public forum, “Alberta Tar Sands: Minnesota’s Dirty Oil Secret,” will explore the implications of America’s dependence upon this source of oil from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, in the O’Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium. Speakers include Simon Dyer, Oil Sands program director, Pembina Institute; Clayton Thomas-Muller, Indigenous Environmental Network; and Michael Noble, executive director, Fresh Energy.
