If local media outlets run true to form, the death of OBL will include |
|
a preponderance of "Minnesota connections"
and they'll be sure to work in the
"and what you'll pay at the pump"
angle as well.
OBL may be the only famous guy to not be pegged as a close personal friend of Sid Hartman.

1. ROFL! Yes, it's only a matter of time. |
|
To be fair, I'm sure TV news stations in other cities do the same thing. But it's always funny. "Osama bin Laden is dead. We'll talk to a Minnesota man whose brother-in-law bumped into Osama's nanny on a London subway!"

2. I imagine they do local connections in other cities as well. |

When I chat with a certain friend, the "what you'll pay at the pump" phrase comes up quite often. Always good for a giggle.

6. What's wrong with pointing |
|
out that a native of Stillwater and St. John's University graduate is a Deputy National Security Advusor, Denis McDonough?

7. Nothing is wrong with it, it's just that the local news will find any connection |

even was as weak as the example Velveteen Ocelot described.
Just as the national news will sound like a disaster in another country is only important if Americans were involved (John Oliver recently did a bit about this on the Daily Show) the local news will always make it seem like it doesn't count unless someone with a tie to Minnesota is involved - even if all they ever did was change planes as MSP.
And I will admit I thought of this thread and chuckled when I saw the caption under the picture in the Strib mentioned that Denis McDonough was from Stillwater.

8. I understand the OP's point |
|
but I don't really think it applies when mentioning someone from here that actually works in the White House. I missed the story about Bin Laden's nanny. She must be quite elderly by now.
