Timmy No-Tool wants the public to have the say to stop local tax hikes.

I heard this on the radio this AM (KQQL 108) but could not find a link.

That slimy little bastard is now trtying to make it so that, in the event of a local tax hike, the public can have a referendum.

Uh, isn't that why we elect these people in the first place? So they, who have the knowledge, can do the work for us in a totally evenhanded and unfettered manner (not that they do anyway?)?

Okay, I'd otherwise agree with the idea of giving We, The People more power... but No-Tool isn't doing what he's doing for the RIGHT reasons. It's spin. And when the public keeps saying "no" to tax hikes and the schools and police and firefighters suffer, who gets the blame? THE PEOPLE. Here comes the tin of sardines :tinfoilhat: : This will then urge No-Tool to be a lot more restrictive (assuming he wins in 2006, which is likely - albeit more likely for fraud, but our own populace is so numb-minded anyway...)

1. 06', I don't know.

Tim will be getting hit in the ass with the door in 06' I think. Minnesota had the highest voter turn out in the nation and it went overwhelmingly for Kerry. I believe a lot of these people never voted before and probably did not follow politics.

If the 2004 election keeps people energized until 2006 I think we will keep winning seats back in our state legislature and put a Democratic Governor back in place.

Where did the name Timmy No-Tool come from? It is kind of funny.

Got tough budget decisions to make? No problem! Just force them down onto the local governments, who have fewer options and less money to work with - and THEN give their (usually ignorant) citizens the right to "veto" any tax increase.

Like you say, HT, that's why we VOTE for people. We let them make decisions for us. We trust that they will study the issue better than we can, and decide when - Koresh forbid - a tax increase is unavoidable. Does the average citizen have any idea how a city or county budget works? Hell, a lot of people can't even balance their own goddamn checkbooks.

The average person is also for lower taxes, thinking it'll benefit them. Well, if they bothered to look at the whole picture, a 5% tax break will give them virtually nothing. At all.
