Dear Ms. :

Thank you for contacting me in regard to President Bush's nomination
of Judge Alberto Gonzales to be the next Attorney General of the United States.

I am troubled by Judge Gonzales' role as Counsel to President Bush in the development of U.S. policies governing the treatment of detainees in the war on terrorism, policies which violated the Geneva Convention and eventually led to the atrocities committed against prisoners at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. This circumvention of international law has tarnished our country's moral leadership and could put our soldiers, who may one day find themselves held captive by foreign powers, at greater risk. Therefore, I intend to vote against the confirmation of Judge Gonzales as Attorney General of the United States.
