Pawlenty's proposal for a partially state-run casino.
I know he wanted to solve his budget problems by re-negging on the agreement with the various Indian Nations regarding Indian gaming. (yeah, now there is a great idea, re-neg with those people *again*). Now he appears to be trying to stong-arm them into complying with his wishes, via threatening them with competition. Not that I have any illusions about whether he will follow through with these plans, I know he will.
I am against the casino plan for several reasons, because it is proposed for Bloomington (where I happen to live), because I see it as a breach of contract between the State of Minnesota and the Indian Nations that entered the original agreements. The increased jobs and state revenues are more than countered by the increased pressures on law enforcement agencies and social services. Not to mention that having the casino near the Mall of America will diminish the family friendly atmosphere of the area.
