Rally for Public Education in Minnesota
http://www.parentsunitednetwork.org/1Feb2005.html

Our public schools have always been the best, but now they are at risk. Inadequate funding from the Minnesota Legislature has forced schools across Minnesota to increase class sizes, lay off teachers and cut student programs. We cannot let this continue.

The STATEWIDE RALLY FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 28th at 5:00 PM on the outside steps of the State Capitol. Show up! Bring signs! Turn out Minnesota—by the BUSLOAD!

1. Thanks for the heads-up.
The dumbass vouchers bill introduced this week is a shot across the bow.

I'll be there!

2. I thought vouchers were ruled unconstitutional
It doesn't matter to the rethugs, does it?
They keep coming back with vouchers, stadiums and all kinds of corporate welfare that people don't want.

Anyhow, I'm glad you're going to the rally.
The more people there the better. Our schools are really straining right now.

3. I shall pass this on!
:hi:

I homeschool, but believe very much in strong Public Ed.

4. Thanks, MzMolly!
Home schooling -- I admire you for doing that. I don't have confidence that I would be a good home school parent.

If public schools continue to get the shaft and Bush is successful in cutting programs for the poor, youth gang activity is going to go through the roof!

When that happens I'm enrolling my daughter in an experimental classroom where students are online for a couple hours a day, and meet in a regular classroom one day a week or so. They have to be very self-directed.

In the meantime, I'm going to do what I can to support more funding for schools. I'm going to committee meetings and have volunteered to help with communications. And I'll be at the rally, of course. :-)

5. I may join you at that rally! I do homeschool (for now) because my
daughter didn't do well in a class setting. But, I fully believe that school is the "great equalizer" and every child deserves a solid education. I am a strong supporter of public education regardless of my personal decision.

As for confidence, I don't have it either LOL, but it's going ok so far. One day at a time as it were. ;)

My daughter may return to Public School someday, but I care about all kids in school regardless of whether or not she does.

6. I hadn't heard of this rally....
Thanks for posting the information. I will pass the word and do my best to be there.

The RW is out to destroy public education (IMHO) and those of us who understand how essential good public schools are to our democracy cannot let them win.

It strikes me that the BushCo/RW strategy is so radical that it doesn't even fall within the realm of possibilites to most people, it just goes over their heads (or under their radar?).
