Juvenile arrested in Red Lake shooting

Both WCCO and the CBS network have reported that there has been an arrest in the Red Lake shooting. Apparently, 4 or 5 kids have been questioned in relation to the tradegy. Both the local station and the network didn't have much to say about this as it is a juvenile involved. However, channel 9, the local Faux affiliate, pretty much told people who the kid is. Can't they be penalized for giving away a juvenile's identity? - The kid hasn't even been charged yet.

The juvenile son of Red Lake Indian Reservation tribal Chairman Floyd Jourdain Jr. was arrested in connection to the shooting rampage that killed 10 people last week.

U.S. Attorney Tom Heffelfinger wouldn't confirm who was arrested Sunday, but a source with knowledge of the investigation said it was Louis Jourdain. Heffelfinger said that juvenile proceedings have started for the suspect in federal court, but wouldn't comment on what role Jourdaine might have played in the shootings.

Heffelfinger declined to comment on where the suspect was arrested because it might identify the individual or make a comment on the proceedings. He also didn't say an age or gender of the juvenile.

When asked if residents of Red Lake should have been concerned about their safety if another person connected to the shooting had been on the loose for a week, Heffelfinger said all the agencies involved in the investigation have responsibility for public safety on Red Lake.

As panicked students around him sought cover from the gunfire echoing through the halls of Red Lake High School, 16-year-old Louis Jourdain struggled with a teacher, finally breaking free to head down the hall toward the shots.

Flailing his arms, throwing books and tipping over desks in the library, Jourdain, who was arrested Sunday in connection with the March 21 shooting, "just kind of freaked out," according to two students who were in the library with him.

As a teacher tried to force Jourdain into a small library office, the Red Lake junior began yelling that it was Jeff Weise with a gun before anyone in the library saw Weise, according to ninth-graders Jourdain Warmington, 15, and Jazz Jourdain-Warmington, 14.

"He was flipping out because it was Weise," said Jourdain Warmington, who said she watched Louis Jourdain run out of the library saying he had to talk to Weise. Authorities said Weise fired the shots that killed nine others and himself.
