Repugs are nervous in Mississippi - plan to challenge voters
Dear Magnolia Bar Members and Friends:

Just last night, we have heard from reliable sources that members of the Republican Party in Mississippi will be present at heavily populated African American and Democratic voting precincts to challenge residency, age, and other voting requirements. In my humble opinion these tactics amount to nothing more than voter intimidation and disenfranchisement of the citizens of this State.

The founders of this organization formed this organization to promote fairness and justice in the legal system. Thus, this organization has a duty to ensure that no citizen is denied the right to vote! We are asking all members to be available on election day to help address any problems that might arise at polling precincts. Some of you have already volunteered. Thank you, but we need so many others to volunteer. If you are willing to volunteer and have not expressed your willingness, please call the Magnolia Bar office at (601)353-2540 or email us at magnoliabar@bellsouth.net

In support of this effort, we are holding a press conference TODAY at 3:00pm at the law offices of PIGOTT REEVES JOHNSON & MINOR (Carlton Reeves), 775 N. Congress Street in Jackson. Please make all efforts to attend the press conference on this very important issue!

Crystal Martin, President
Magnolia Bar Association, Inc.

4. The electoral college map has Mississippi pink
I too, take this as a good sign! Except, voter intimidation has been practiced in MS for years. Maybe this year, there were be folks willing to help the voters. I believe there will be - tons of folks are volunteering to monitor the polls - many lawyers have offered their services.

5. Thanks for the well wishes!
Actually, this may be the first time in years that the voters will have immediate assistance at the polls. Voter intimidation has been a constant in Mississippi for years.

3. I read that as a bad sign for the GOP.
I would have thought that Mississippi would be solidly red, so they wouldn't have to try to suppress the black vote there (well, any more than they normally do in any given election).

6. Couldn't agree with you more --
But, it makes you wonder - have they been doing this all along and that is why Mississippi is always red?

7. My hubby and I are poll watchers, and yes repugs should be worried in MS
Lots of minorities want to vote, it should drive them nuts.

Well as a poll watcher, I promise that our district will be fair.

8. Thank you for your hard work!
Thanks for your involvement & care. I am helping by monitoring various polling places and being on call for lawyers at the polls.

9. Please take MS for Kerry
I would rub it in my Repub sister in Jackson. Love her, but what delicious fun that would be!

10. I know it's late in the game...
The Clarion Ledger has come out rather reluctantly for Bushco. I've sent my LTTE. But, we could use more help. I don't have enough posts to start a thread so, I need some DUers to start some rumblin'. The link to their OpEd piece is-http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20041031/OPINION01/410310333/1008/OPINION
and the e-mail to the editor is- dhampton@clarionledger.com
Thanks and I'll be at my polling place before dawns early light.

11. screw the c/l
Years ago I remember the c/l being a pretty good paper - I'm not sure if it actually was, or I've just outgrown it. It's not like you're going to find any actual news in it - I'm sure you know that's no exaggeration.

Anyway - don't waste your time with it, sending them LTTE's or emails only makes them think they're doing some kind of journalism & inciting debate. Whether liberal or conservative, they're not worth the time even thinking about.

12. I have to agree wiht you, ever since the editor died earlier this
year, the paper has gotten worse. It is a repuke conservative rag. No use writing to the editor, the Chamber of Commerce has made its choice and it did not chose Kerry. Our only hope it voter turn out. All dems to the polls.

Good luck on Nov. 2.

13. I understand
The C/L is a rag. I do the 2 crosswords, read the comics and drain my fried catfish w/ it. But saying it's bad and ignoring it won't make it go away. The last 4 years have shown me that. Taking action ,no matter how small is action none the less. It makes me feel better. B/T/W like your avitar- I'm a mini-tour player trying to make a livin' at that foolish game.

14. I guess the c/l & the sh know my name, they won't print my letters
and or my soundoffs. I have been fighting them for years and will continue to do so! Just at this time, a letter to the editor regarding their endorsement of * is not a good use of my time. It does not surprise me, as I said the Chamber of Commerce gave them their instructions.

I love golf, I am not a good player, but I love it any way, unfortunately I haven't been able to golf in a few months. As DU has become my hobby - I thought I would combine the two loves/hobbies!

Good luck to you in your efforts on the mini-tour! What a better way to make a living than to do what you love! Glad you are pursuing your dream. Guess if I could I would love to make a living DUing or golfing, but alas - that is not in the cards!

Peace, GOTV & Welcome to DU! :hi:

Kerry in a Landslide! :bounce:
