Alright. This is a damned disgrace.
C'mon, Mississippians. Let's hear from you. Start a thread on ANYTHING. Damn, Texas has a bunch of threads and we only have, what? eight?

So, how's the garden coming? Local politics gettin' you down? Tell us how things are going in your neck of the woods. Share a recipe (especially for good cocktails!).

Let's get some conversation stirrin' in here. Ok?

1. I got another DU member to start a thread for me...
...because I couldn't start a thread since I was new (still can't, either) about Medicaid being cut out by our new Governor. No one responded, so I just figured it didn't affect any of other Mississippi DU'ers family members.

8. Something will have to be done.
Even though Mississippi receives multiple federal tax dollars back for each one it sends to Washington, for some reason, Mississippians (even poor ones) despise social programs--at least rhetorically.

Now that the reality of Republican policy is hitting home, let's hope that we will receive a few disillusioned Republicans into our party.

It angers me to see Barbour and his ilk using the vestment of conservatism to foment such RADICAL changes in social programs here. I think the bar has been raised too high this time, and the Repubs will feel a backlash.

Goddam Republicans. They invoke God and then do exactly the opposite of what Jesus advocated. Wish everyone would wake up and see this. :grr:

7. Medicaid being cut out??
I am not from MS but that stinks. What are people there doing? How can they manage? Just another reason Republicans are the party of mean. Compassionate Conservatism means killing off anyone who disagrees with Republicans. Is Medicaid a federal program or strictly up to the states?

10. Medicaid is state-funded.
I don't know what the disabled and elderly will do. There will be 65,000 people who will not be able to get their meds or afford to go to the doctor anymore, effective July 1.

This whole thing was slipped in under the radar and not made public until it was a done deal. Even now, it's difficult to find out much about it--at least I'm having trouble finding it.

Mr. Barbour did get another official airplane and a pay-raise. That's what pisses me off.

I didn't hear this for myself, but a cousin told me that some reps are saying they were strong-armed or tricked into voting this in, but I cannot find a record of the vote.

5. Wow, I didn't even realize it was afternoon yet.
I'm in Lauderdale County. Hello.

Is it sticky, nasty hot there? It's horrible here. My brother's coming in from California at the end of the month and I already warned him that the heat would smack him in the face when he stepped off the plane.

6. It's pretty warm
but not unbearable here. I'd say in the mid to high-80s. It's a beautiful, clear day.

9. I'm down here in Southwest Mississippi.
'bout half-way between New Orleans and Jackson--and close to that little berg I love to visit frequently--Natchez.

Any Natchezians here?
