Anti-cloning bill shelved
Republicans divided on stem cell issue.

JEFFERSON CITY - Facing strong dissent from his own party, a Republican senator last night shelved a bill to ban human cloning.

The bill could come up again, but it was clear from yesterday’s five-hour debate that the controversial measure from Sen. Matt Bartle, R-Lee’s Summit, faces widespread opposition.

"It’s become pretty obvious to me a long time ago that there is more than enough political will to kill the bill," Bartle said last night.

2. Koster - the new legislator from Harrisonville

was most impressive in the debate with Bartle. He's a Repub but seems pretty moderate. He said if we are going to err on the side of life, why not allow research that will maybe help blind people see and paralyzed folks walk. It was nice to note that not all Repubs in Jeff City are idiots like Bartle.

3. It's all about $, not conscience

Stowers Institute is near Koster's district, and they've not been shy about saying they'll take their $ elsewhere where they CAN do stem cell research.

So, it's not about right or wrong after all, but $.

As aside-have you all visited the www.house.mo.gov and www.senate.mo.gov to see what bills have been proposed? Scary stuff, that.
