JEFFERSON CITY — The Missouri House passed new restrictions Wednesday on abortion, giving Gov. Matt Blunt what he wanted in a special legislative session called largely for that purpose.
The House voted 115-35 for a bill to prevent people from helping pregnant females under 18 avoid Missouri’s parental consent requirement by going to another state for an abortion.
The bill also would require doctors to have clinical privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of where they perform abortions and would limit who can help a pregnant minor seek court approval for an abortion. The Senate passed the same bill last week. The new law will take effect upon the governor’s signature, which is expected today.
On Wednesday the governor commended lawmakers for their action.
