Jackson County voters!!
Please allow this snob from Johnson County (me) to help you decide how to vote tomorrow. Watch this and after you vomit, don't rinse out your mouth. Leave that awful taste in your mouth and take it to the polls with you tomorrow. And remember, The Chiefs don't need your stinkin money. The Royals don't need your money either. If you vote yes, you are allowing yourself to be hoodwinked (and bribed) by team owners who could put that roof up with their own profits and take you all out for a beer afterwards.

Oh and if you really want to go to Arrowhead to watch a Final Four, you won't need binoculars. Get a telescope.

1. It isn't just a tax on KC/Jackson County residents.
They are sales and use taxes. The sales tax is not only regressive, but paid by anyone who spends money here.
And who in their right mind thinks that basketball will ever be played in Arrowhead?

2. I know it's my tax dollars too
And for the record, I voted yes on the bistate tax.

This campaign is one of the nastiest I have ever seen. I am stunned at the bullshit the supporters are pushing at the voters.

Yeah right, basketball at Arrowhead!! That would be like watching a chess game at Kemper. Or jacks at Municipal Auditorium.

3. I also voted for Bi-State.
I'm happy that Union Station was renovated. I'm disappointed in its use.
But I have yet to hear stadium tax opponents mention the regressive nature of sales taxes. They try to argue with supporters on the hypothetical loss of the teams or financial benefits to the community.

Remember when they built the Truman Sports Complex? It wasn't built downtown because Jackson County residents' taxes were needed to fund it along with KC residents. They promised great development opportunities around the stadiums. To this day, about all there is out there is the drive-in theatre (they went from 2 screens to four!), Yellow Freight, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the loneliest Adam's Mark Hotel in the country.

Guess which way I'm voting. And I'm a Chiefs and Royals fan.

4. It's not Adam's Mark anymore
It's a Clarion. There is a nice little Irish pub there that has a great happy hour. We should go sometime.

But yes, I remember. I thought (still do) that a stadium downtown was a dumb idea. Where would people park? I thought at the time that they should put the sports complex in the stockyards where Kemper is.

5. That's still a better location than where it is now.
Clarion, huh? Shows you how often I can afford to go out there.
Downtown, where Riverfront Park is now, would have been perfect. Plenty of space for parking once the derelict buildings are razed.

9. campaign slogans
There are so many that gall me to death, but "We are them and they are us" reminds me of...

THE NAZIS

Yeah, remember? Hitler is Germany, and Germany is Hitler. I think Goebbels came back as Glorioso.

Do you guys get Mark Espings newsletters? (NAG and the Hotline) They have had a lot of good stuff on the stadium taxes.

8. But if you don't give them what they want
They'll take their ball and leave. Then where will you be?
I wouldn't vote for this if I were living down there for the simple fact it's fucking extortion. Why now? What's the big goddamn hurry that all of a sudden they need a fucking roof, part of the atmosphere of those stadiums is being outside.
isn't there some rule about football teams being passed down to the next generation? I thought that they had to be sold, at least that's how I understood the Washington situation.
How old is Lamar Hunt? fuck him anyway, that decrepit old bastard had snarlin deadeye dick in his private box, and invited the moran* up to River Falls.
Let them take their fucking ball and leave, the Royals are a piece of third rate crap who will never win until someone with money buys the team.
Glass doesn't have the beans to field a solid team, the best projection I've heard on wins this year is 65 maybe 70.
Go out and watch the Tbones, that's better baseball.

10. Would you feel differently if the Royals were winning?
To me, that's irrelevant.

T-Bones games are much further away from me than Kauffman Stadium. And I didn't really care for the T-Bones experience. I am a fan of Major League Baseball, and want the Royals and Chiefs to stay. But I agree that the taxes are extortion.

11. probably
I knew some of the Royals players in the seventies when they went to the playoffs every year, unfortunately so did the yankees. If the seven gamr format had been in use then it may have been a different story, especially 77.

12. I agree.
And if these taxes had been put to a vote then (granted, the stadiums were still new), the perception would have been reversed. The Chiefs sucked out loud then, and the Royals were the hottest ticket in town.

13. You are right, it IS extortion
Lamar Hunt is close to 80. His son is pretty much in charge anyway. Lamar has a reputation as a cheap ass and I hear his son is even worse.

Glass is running The Royals like they run WalMart. No wonder they suck so bad.

I wouldn't worry that The Chiefs are leaving. They have sold out every game for how many years now? So even if they do leave, this market is ripe for another team. It didn't kill St. Louis to lose The Cardinals. Losing The Chiefs won't destroy KC.

Oh how I wish I lived in Jackson County. This bill just unfuriates me.
