Did Teacher Strangle Teen, Go Dancing?
Just when you think that you can't imagine another depravity, another just pops right up in front of your face. I am aghast at the inhumanity.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/05/03/national/main1576002.shtml

(CBS) Seventeen-year-old Ashley Reeves was found paralyzed, covered in insect bites and near death in a densely wooded park just miles from her home and school.

Police say she had been lying there more than 30 hours, after having been left there to die by a former teacher Thursday evening.

But what the teacher — 26-year-old Samson Shelton, who has been charged with attempted murder — is accused of doing next has become a disturbing part of the case, John Mills of St. Louis CBS affiliate KMOV-TV reports for CBS News' The Early Show.

Police have identified Shelton on a videotape shot the night Reeves disappeared. In it, he is line dancing at a well known local country music club, just as he did on many Thursday nights, as if nothing unusual was going on.

2. What a creep.
But she's alive, which is good.

When you open the article, there's a link to an article about the Colbert Report at the bottom of the page.

5. Has she regained consciousness? Or rather, will she?
The last I heard, only her eyes were reacting to light. That sociopath may have killed her anyway... or, at least the Ashley that was.

8. That's my concern too.
How long was he choking her? Was she without oxygen long enough to have brain damage?

And what kind of neurological damage was caused by all of this?

If she spends the rest of her life paralyzed from the neck down then that will be wonderful, all things considered. But there's a possibility of far worse.

It sounds like they have definitive proof it was him, but the article doesn't say what that is. I wonder how they identified him. If it's him then I hope this sticks and he spends the rest of his life in a maximum security prison

10. He broke her neck, then strangled her
Sounds as if she will be both paralyzed and brain damaged.

4. Psychopath alert!
He's friendly, outgoing and charming. And left a woman for dead and went dancing.

Don't need to be a shrink to diagnose THIS one.

6. ugh, how disgusting
He looks like 100 different teachers I know. What the article doesn't explain is how the police found her so soon (thank goodness she was alive). Did he turn himself in?

7. i'm confused... how did they connect the teacher with the crime?
i don't see anything in the article to connect him to the crime, and they're not using the word "allegedly." weird!

9. Another article I read said that he confessed to the cops
Unfortunately, I don't have a link, so consider what I just typed as "unsubstantiated Internet rumor" unless you happen to come across that article.

13. OK, maybe I'm just sensitive
Why does the headline have to specify "teacher"?

There are certain professions - teacher, minister (of any faith), doctor, which, when one member commits a crime, is headlines. When do you ever see the headline "Accountant....." or "WalMart clerk...." or "Mine Worker...." ?

Granted, the crime committed is horrendous. Why though, should the headline specify that it was a TEACHER who supposedly committed it?

From reading the article I thought the reason for the emphasis was obvious. Or at least it was to me.

That is how serial killers work. This guy might have killed others, I hope they look into his life very carefully. Fucking scary shit.

Yes...he is so sick and remorseless, there is a very strong possibility of a serial killings. They should check the rosters of those other schools he worked at in the area listed in the article.
