4. The area I live in.

Let's be honest-there's gotta be some people out there pissed off at Whiteman. Maybe they can't get to them but they could take it out on the towns around it, knowing that many of the military personnel live off-base.

I'm not too worried either way but I know if I were a terrorist I'd take it out on the towns surrounding military bases. Many are small and have small police departments, making them relatively easy targets.

5. Makes sense

When I was a kid, my mom worked at Bendix, which is now Honeywell. They made components for military weapons. We used to worry that when the Russians bombed us, the Bendix plant would be the first place in this area to go.

6. Targeting the surrounding town would be

an easy way to achieve payback. Offduty personnel and their dependents would be injured and, compared to targeting the base itself, this method would be easier.

I've always been surprised that you don't hear about attempts to target local Walmarts and grocery stores simultaneously on government paydays. Sure, the landmarks would make the news faster and would hurt the public on an immediate level (thoughts of "I remember visiting that place") but bomb the local Walmart on payday and you have a better chance of taking out a B-2 pilot or their family while offduty.
And you always know when it's payday around here-the stores are packed full of air men and women still in uniform.

Public landmarks have name recognition and more chance of a higher body count. But if you target the military community you have a better chance of taking out people who specialize in a field that can affect the terrorists at a later date and time.

That's why in Missouri if I were distributing funds I'd be more likely to give a decent chunk to the communities that surround Whiteman and Leonard Wood. A dumb terrorist would strike a landmark just to make a point and to acheive higher body counts. A smart terrorist would strike a undermanned community knowing that they have a better chance of taking out military members and diminishing their count.

29. Communication Centers

Little fact. Missouri (St. Louis region) used to be the home of SWBell. We still have massive amounts of phone switching centers. A bomb hitting one of those could take out phone communication for hours all across the country. Think of the ATT towers out near Hillsboro, or some of the unmarked building in the city of St. Louis that are nothing but endless levels of communications equipment, both switches for phones and server redundancy areas. I used to work as a 24 hour server repair person, you would be astounded at the sheer volume of servers and phone switches located around the area, once again, because SWBell used to live here and left massive amouts of infrastructure behind when the went to Texas.
