The eastern suburbs of Jackson County are host this year to one of the hottest political races in Missouri as Rep. Bob Johnson tries to unseat Sen. Matt Bartle.
While the race is a clash between two of the most respected Republicans in the legislature, it is also a collision of ideology.
Johnson, whose political career goes back more than three decades, is a traditional conservative who advocates small government, labor-management cooperation and personal freedom. As a lawmaker, his style is pragmatic and looks for compromise rather than forcing others to accept dictates.
