Blunt Smiles like a Painted Clown for the Globe
Governor Blunt had a fairly amazing bout of insight recently. Blunt told the following to the Joplin Globe's editorial board, in the context of the Medicaid cuts: "We need a program where they'll have a doctor other than the emergency room." This is precisely what the Missouri Medicaid cuts that he himself advocated for did to thousands of Missourians.

Just about anyone in the medical field can tell you that they know multiple patients that have lost their Medicaid and can not afford sliding scale fees for one tenth of the services that they need to be stabilized. These individuals do end up in emergency rooms because Blunt has supported the exact preventative health care services that he now claims to support.

His minions have also made it more difficult for practitioners to obtain authorizations for services. The goal is of course to save money and many of us believe it is to turn psychological services into today's Missouri dentist offices (who generally do not even take Medicaid patients).

At the base of many of their actual beliefs is a view that poverty is a result of the immorality and laziness of the poor. It is all about personal responsibility. The type that Blunt wants desperatly not to apply to himself. If he did he might consider personal responsibility, in his actions, to include a mutual responsibility to others.
