1. What's wrong with the existing bridge?
Didn't they just spend a couple kazillion dollars to refurbish it?

2. It's my understanding that the couple kazillion was used as a bandaid
solution to avert an immediate possibility of a disaster.

To maintain it in the longer term, it would take even more money. It's not clear, though, that this new bridge is the most cost effective solution.

Moreover, it's inexcusable that the only provisions for bicycle and pedestrian access are vague promises of adding it in the future. If the intention is to have bicycles on it in two decades, wouldn't it make sense just to do it from the beginning?

Also, it's downright irresponsible that this much money is being spent on a new bridge without any consideration of integrating it with a light rail system connecting NKC to the rest of the city. If these clowns are serious about implementing light rail, wouldn't it make sense that a brand new $250 million dollar bridge would be built with this in mind, instead of refitting it or another one of the bridges at some point in the future for an even greater cost?

The level of competence at our local government is so deplorable that I hope that Bush and Cheney settle in KCMO in 2009 and run for city and county positions. They'd probably do a better job than the assholes we have now.

3. One Dinosaur deserves another.
You know this auto-only bridge is named after Mr. Pork himself: Senator Christopher Bond.

4. Another over-sized bridge
I heard that the height of the central pier might interfere with air traffic using the downtown airport.
