State Rep. Stanley Cox, R-Sedalia, said this year’s session started quickly with several bills pre-filed. “It’s really started with a bang,” he said.
Cox’s pre-filings included constitutional amendments that if approved would have to go before voters.
The most controversial of those proposed amendments will likely be HJR 48, which concerns the use of photographic identification for voters.
A law passed a few years ago was struck down by state Supreme Court, Cox said, so he felt a constitutional act would be an alternative way to handle the issue.
“If you have to go to Blockbuster and show a photo ID in order to rent a movie, or to get on an airplane, it just seems reasonable that when you go vote that you have to show a photo ID,” he said.
