Migrants Rights Prayer Vigil at Homeland Security Building by the Airport

As you may have seen on the news last night, our brave brothers and sisters
in this struggle took the Immigration fight to the steps of the Federal
Courthouse in Kansas City on Monday. Four of them were arrested in acts of
Civil Disobediance, asking for "NO MORE DEATHS" on the border.

This year, nothing had been planned in Kansas City for May 1st -
traditionally a day of Immigration marches here in Kansas City and around
the nation. The People of Faith for Hospitality & Justice have planned a
Prayer Vigil at the flagpost in front of the Dept. of Homeland Security
building up by the airport. This building is where all of the Immigration
Deportation hearings are held, where people are processed for deportation,
where the buses leave from when they are taking loads of immigrants back to
Mexico each week. We're hoping to have a 20 minute prayer vigil outside,
for the workers and for the immigrants. Please join us if you can. The

Dear People of Faith,

Our letter to ICE requesting a meeting to discuss pastoral care visits and
other issues was received by ICE last Thursday afternoon. Starting
tomorrow, Pastor Voss will be following up on the letter to coordinate the
actual meeting which will be scheduled after the middle of May.

Directions to Barry Christian Church on Thursday May 1:

9:00AM - meet at Barry Christian Church (1500 NW Barry Rd., KCMO). The
church is at the intersection of Barry Rd. and Hickory across from the
Quick Trip. If you are coming from MO we recommend taking Hwy 169 north
past Hwy 71 to Barry Rd. exit then go west 1/2 mile. From KS we recommend
taking Hwy 635 north to Hwy 29/71. On 29/71 go north to Barry Rd. exit
then go east 3 miles. You can also Google Barry Christian Church + KCMO
and find your own way. We will depart the church promptly at 9:30. Please
