New changes at Power and Light District have people talking

KANSAS CITY, Missouri - The Power and Light District started a new policy that requires people on Friday and Saturday nights to pay a cover charge to get into the open area in between bars and restaurants.

On Friday nights after midnight and Saturdays after 11:00 p.m. it’s ten dollars to get in. And they are not accepting cash, only credit and debit cards. Power and Light District officials said it’s a business move to get people in the door earlier so they can spend more money. As for the cash they said they don’t want large amounts of money just sitting in the open space so they are opting for debit and credit cards.

But many people we spoke to said they don’t like changes and don’t want to pay a cover charge.

No link yet.

How many people don't have credit or debt cards?

I assume this Power and Light District is some sort of restaurant or something? It's hard to tell what this is actually about.

2. I used to live near a large amusement part that did this and they eventually
went out of business. This was not the only cause, but a contributing factor. People used to walk into the park just for walking, but almost always ended up spending money. The admission charge killed off a lot of casual business. I think similar of this. That would discourage me from even thinking of going there. Just to get into that part of the city is bullshit IMO.

5. You know what this is about don't you?
Keeping young black men OUT of the Power & Light district.
I don't live in KC any longer, but I did when the district first opened.
There were a couple of establishments that created some very "ambiguous" dress codes, and several employees of mine who were black were denied admittance.

In other words, if you were wearing IZOD or Nautica you were in.
Mark Ecko or Roccawear?
A gold chain or two?
See ya.

9. I refuse to use credit or debit cards
I do not have a credit card.

Why should that card company make any money? They did not contribute to the transaction in any way.

If I need to order something online I borrow my husband or my daughter's card. But I don't even like using it then, and would mostly use paypal if possible.

I live in Independence, and I have to say that P&L District management company is very inventive with the discriminatory rules, rolling out each new rule as they get hammered about the last one. This has been going on since the place was opened. I have not ever been there.

8. Stay away...
After my first visit to the P$L district, and seeing few if any people of color there. I decided to do what many are now doing...stay away! This place was built with public financing... not sure how they're able to get away with the blatant discrimination they do.... BTW here's a clip about the financing issues....
