Fund-raising will now begin in earnest for a set of statues depicting historical documents at the Flathead County Courthouse, an effort aimed at keeping a Ten Commandments monument there while avoiding legal challenges. County commissioners officially approved the "cornerstone of law" park proposal Tuesday, giving the green light to an idea that had been circulating for months.
They also approved a resolution requiring county department heads to post "In God We Trust" placards in their offices.

After the meeting, Himes was asked if he would support displays on public property that included items from other religions. He said no; his belief in Christianity would make that personally offensive.
He said he also would object on historical grounds: "Our history is a Christian history. It is not a Buddhist-Moslem-Hindu history."
