Anti-Bush organizers hoping to hold major rally in OctoberBy GINNY MERRIAM of the Missoulian
Dump Bush Missoula started out small at its first public meeting Tuesday night. But its organizers promise an October rally that will draw at least 3,000 people to Caras Park, and they hope that Missoula's effort is the crucible for a national "red state rebellion."
"We're going to work like crazy to fill that park so the rest of the nation sees: 'Wow! They're that mad in Missoula, Montana,' " Dump Bush Missoula chairman Bill Bevis told two dozen people at the meeting.
"Bush is the issue," said Dump Bush co-founder Jocelyn Siler. "This is a very frightening president who has done some terrible things."
An eight-member executive committee began meeting in Missoula six weeks ago. They include current and retired University of Montana professors, a Missoula math teacher and a retired transportation association executive from Washington, D.C. Two are Vietnam veterans. The steering committee has swelled to 16 people, the majority of them young people, said Bevis, a retired UM English professor.
