Vincent raps Schweitzer's abortion remarksBy CHARLES S. JOHNSON

HELENA - Democratic candidate for governor John Vincent on Tuesday called on his opponent, Brian Schweitzer, to retract statements he made to college students about a woman's right to abortion.
Schweitzer declined, saying he stood by his comments that Republicans are grandstanding about the abortion issue, talking about it but not doing anything about it.
Vincent cited a NARAL Pro-Choice Montana voting record publication that paraphrased Schweitzer's position on abortion. While for abortion rights, Schweitzer was quoted as telling Montana State University students that Republicans were just grandstanding on abortion to appeal to their base voters and had no plans to make abortion illegal.
"That kind of a statement files in the face of the persistent, ongoing efforts of Republican legislators, at both the national and state levels, to take away a woman's right to choose," said Vincent, a Gallatin County commissioner and former state lawmaker.
Vincent said it provides "another example of Brian's unpredictability."
