Helena lawyer launches challenge to Rehberg

HELENA - Helena lawyer and Democrat Jim Hunt on Tuesday launched his bid to unseat Republican U.S. Rep. Denny Rehberg, saying it's time to change directions in Washington, D.C.

Rehberg has been a consistent supporter of the war in Iraq and President Bush's policies and is trying to run away from that record, Hunt said at a news conference at Fort Harrison, west of Helena.

"If you want change, if you want to get out of Iraq, if you want lower energy prices, if you want to fix the economy, if you want to provide affordable health care ... then I want you to support me in this campaign," he said.

Hunt, 54, is a lawyer in private practice and the son of former Montana Supreme Court Justice William Hunt. So far, he is the only challenger to Rehberg, a four-term congressman from Billings.
