Democrat says he's 'most godly' candidate for (Montana) governor
Source: Missoulian

HELENA - Bill Fischer's take on the Democratic race for governor is fairly simple:

“Whatever individual would give the greatest glory to the name of Jesus and the greatest glory to the people of Montana should be the winner. I'm asking people to vote for the most godly man,” he said.

... Fischer has never held public office before. He is anti-abortion and supports tax credits for private education - positions typically held by Republicans - but said he decided to file as a Democrat because the Democrats are “the party of the people and, really, what I'm about is people.”

... Fischer said he believes that medical malpractice lawsuits are to blame for the high cost of medicine, but he also said that he believes in miraculous healings through prayer. As governor, Fischer said he would establish a 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week prayer system in which people would be praying for Montana constantly.

But because they are active in a church, keeping the money coming in, it's ok then.

5. Democrats have thrown away their Constitution and
Edited on Sat Mar-22-08 09:35 AM by mac2
common sense. They are so pious it sets them up for a fall. Are we impressed? Not.

The religious right in this country are a very small group yet they pander to them.

They kiss the clergy feet (buy their votes with Faith Based tax dollars) while at the same time taking away their flock's freedoms (Patriot Acts,e tc) and jobs (NAFTA, CAFTA, etc trade deals which are one sided out). Indeed, the lies about war, financial prosperity, and security are very common.

Democrats are appealing once again to a minority population when they should be thinking about winning everyone's vote. Are they doing this to have a Fascist state? To once again lose when they do win (by a small margin) but give it away?

Republicans are running as Democrats and I want them out of our party now...Howard Dean and DNC leaders.

“When facism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.” Sinclair Lewis.

30. Yes, the Dem incumbent, Brain Schweitzer, enjoys approval ratings in the 70% statewide.
His Dem approval ratings must be in the high 90%

This fringe candidate in the OP is running on a lark and a dream. We got a ton of filings last week for all our office up for election across both parties.

Mainly our statewide offices.

"Fischer and White joined Donald Pogreba and Jason Neiffer, both of Helena, as Democrats to join Schweitzer and Lt. Gov. John Bohlinger on the primary ballot."

Schweitzer's the incumbent, and has good approval ratings, so should get back in: http://www.missoulian.com/articles/2007/07/02/news/local/news03.txt

9. DINO alert.
The old Dixiecrats were far to the right of even the GOP conservative wing. Those days are long gone. This guy needs to team up with the officially-sanctioned Christian Coalition political entity, which ain't the Democrats. If elected he'd probably switch parties anyway. If he becomes the nominee, then why vote for a fake Republican when there are real ones already on the ballot?

Repo nominations as well. In fact, they seem to have the lion's share of nuts.

I'm of the opinion that having reasonably easy ballot access is a good thing. Some of the people running will have good things to say. This guy won't be but as bleep on the radar screen.

35. I know that he won't get anywhere, but it still concerns me
This sort of thing seems to further entrench the idea that the US can only accommodate two parties and that an individual who wants to run for public office has to pick one. Beyond that, it's as if everyone were a Democrat, Republican or independent. I'm not a registered Democrat (my state has an open primary), but I am a die-hard Democratic voter in most cases.

I don't want to see more parties because there is another party that I'd rather be voting for, but because I think it strengthens democracy to have everyone's voice heard. Having these sorts of primaries where someone just picks between one of two parties seems to go against that.

37. The Constitutionalists, the Libertarians and independents are running as candidates. The problem
of third parties in a two party system is that they can't get any power, they can only spoil the party hey are philosophically closest to.

I also expect Nader will run better here than the national average.

We need instant run off voting and/or fusion voting so that third parties can perform a legitamite political function. I agree with you that democratic pluralism is superior to democratic dualism.
