Anyone going to see Obama and Nelson this Saturday in Omaha?

I guess they're going to be at some church in Omaha. Has anyone been to anything like this? What could I expect to see happen there? I am thinking about going.

On Saturday, May 6th, the Nebraska Democratic Party, along with Senator Ben Nelson, will hold a rally at the Salem Baptist Church, 3131 Lake Street, to welcome U.S. Senator Barack Obama of Illinois. Senator Obama has been a tremendous leader in the United States Senate and an inspiration for millions of Americans.

Elected in 2004, Senator Obama gained national prominence through his keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. His speech focused on the values we share as a nation and touched a cord with many who had become frustrated with the emphasis that has been too often placed on those issues that divide us rather than those that unite us.

In that spirit, the rally will be completely open to the public so that all of Omaha can hear his message. We cordially invite you to join us at Salem at 3:45 p.m. with Senator Obama and welcome him to our great state.

I can't attend due to my distaste and distrust for Ben. He will be a bad influence on Obama. I can't bear to watch.

3. This was an excellent event

And I'm so glad the Nebraska Black Caucus could organize it. This was a crowd that badly wanted change. A message of hope and empowerment in the face of frustration and cynicism of everything that's going wrong. It was excellent.

4. I was glad I went to this

Senator Nelson talked for about 2 minutes, which is about as much as I wanted to hear from him! Then Senator Obama spoke for maybe half and hour. It was an inspiring message. His first major point was a dig at Republicans, "Had Enough?" was his theme. Had enough of a government that doesn't tell the truth and manipulates the facts? Had enough of $3 gas? Had enough of $400 billion deficits and $9 trillion debt? and on down the line.

Then he had a very good message about personal responsibility. The government can't solve all your problems, he said. Parents have to get involved in their child's education, from helping their kids with homework to talking with the teachers. People want commercial development in their neighborhood (this was in a poorer north Omaha neighborhood) but you can help make that happen. The first thing you can do is throw your trash in the garbage can. No one wants to go shopping where there's broken 40 oz bottles all over. He had another main subpoint which escapes me, then he said we have a responsibility to vote. That's so basic I shouldn't even have to say it. Then you have a responsibility to get involved and get other people to vote. If cousin Pookie is playing video games on the couch, you've got to tell him, come on Pookie, it's time to go vote. You can play video games after we vote. Overall it was a very good speech. The church was fairly large and almost at capacity. It was nice to see that many people fired up about this. Thank you Senator Obama!
