it's still offically too close to call but Dave Heineman has a 7 point lead.
I am shocked.

1. honestly I saw this coming
there was alot of anti-Osborne sentiment and I wasn't hearing anything positive. Heineman played it brilliantly, positioning himself as the "conservative" in the race and Osborne as a wishy-washy liberal if you can imagine that, all while not bashing a Husker legend. TO got crushed in his own district because he was seen as not conservative enough. He was also ineffective at GOTV. Does this = a disaster in the general for us? I'm getting a bad feeling. I think people are drawing the exact opposite lesson they should be drawing - that we need a MORE conservative government. In case you haven't noticed, there aren't any more conservatives in politics, just phony ass-holes trying to convince you they are conservative so they can get elected and get at your money.

4. Sure
Although I think his non-stance on 'one city one school district' put side by side with Heineman's firm stance in favor of the suburbs was much more damaging. But both issues played into the "more conservative than thou" mantra that got Heineman a win tonight. I very much dislike Heineman but I've got to say, I don't think he could have ran a better campaign.

3. Your bad feeling is mine too.
Every conservative I talk with has the same view they had in 2000. They are undeniably pro-idiot. Everyone in my family is republican and I can't believe it. Sometimes I stand in front of the mirror in the morning and slap myself around because I think I'm in a bad dream. After I clean up my bloody nose and put ice on my fat lip I realize that this is real. We are living this nightmare. We live in a state that is over 60% red. It just doesn't make sense to me because it is only getting worse. Maybe its like they say about drug addicts, they have to hit rock bottom before they can come back up. I hate to say it, but maybe they haven't hit rock bottom yet. Hang on its going to be a bumpy ride.

6. I think it was tuition
Osborne carried Omaha and Lincoln.
But not the areas with the meat processing plants - and I am guessing those communities to have a larger mexican-american population.

I am a forever Yellow Dog but Heineman did get my attention with the trade deals.
