Boy we're a lame forum. How long until someone comments
on this post?

I believe its because we have such a shitful excuse of a party here in Nebraska. If we really had a Democratic Party instead of the pitiful republican ass kissing clique, we might have something to talk about.

2. I wonder, BensMom, what can we do about the young people, our
kids, in regard to politics and political motivation here in Nebraska? They need to know that we do not actually have a democratic party here (notice I have quit capitalizing the term). We have a party that allows you and I to be taxed to the hilt while we let corporate America evade paying 70 - 90 million a year (at least) in taxes just because they'll pull a ConAgra and threaten to leave the state. We have a state that elects a bush** butt sniffing cretinous jerk like Ben Nelson even though he BRAGS about praise he got from bush** during his re-election campaign. And we have a democratic party that's being led by a 4' tall corporate lawyer.

What can we do?

3. Ok, I'm from across the river to the east & I have a question...
Even though I lived in NE for a couple years, I don't know all the players in the system, so, who's the 4' tall lawyer?

I'm originally from NW Iowa (the most republican part of IA). They bought Nixon's b.s., Reagonomics, Newt's contract with America, the latest neocon crap etc., and they have no idea they are voting against their own best interests. It's stunning.

We are plagued with Steve King for our rep. To beat him would take major Foleyesque scandal OR an actual fighting Democratic party. I think they have just given up on this side of the state. That's unfortunate since the tide is turning.

Of course, there is also the problem of a mostly apathetic population...unless it has to do with Mexicans or Homersexials :eyes:

5. Here ya go...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nebraska_Democratic_Party

<snip>
The Nebraska Democratic Party is the official arm of the Democratic Party in the U.S. State of Nebraska.

The current state party chair is Steve Achelpohl.
<snip>

He's a corporate lawyer that needs a booster chair at any given restaurant in town (I am exaggerating here). He is been lead in the party here forever. Him running the party is why Nebraska forgives between 70 and 90 million dollars per year in corporate taxes but we have one of the most heavy property, road, and sales taxes in the nation. With that guy entrenched as head of the (I should start saying 'so-called) Democratic party here in Nebraska, the citizens, especially the middle and lower classes will always come last. But big business will flourish.

4. ROFLMAO! Moved from Lincoln to Chapel Hill, NC in 2000 and
I gotta' tell ya' I haven't missed NE!

I feel sorry for you. It really is a terrific feeling to live in a town where at least 2/3 of the people you meet hold the same political opinions as your own. Granted, NC is a red state--but it's changing, and at least we have a Dem governor and state legislature.

Finding a liberal/progressive community in which to reside can make all the difference in your outlook from day to day. Of course, it doesn't help that we're ALL still faced with the Bushies controlling things, nationally, but it's looking like this Congress will at least stop the pendulum and start it swinging back to the left.

6. I agree the NE democratic party is a joke
But I was very encouraged by the fact that we at least had 2 candidates that truly stood for something in 2006, Kleeb and Esch. These are the kinds of people that deserve our support, even if the party bigwigs are just watered down republicans. I hope this is the start of a trend to having candidates that are actually trying to win and trying to say something in their campaigns. Nothing is worse than trying to get behind people that believe they are going to lose and barely even try. I hope the party heads will get behind this and start saying something and believe that what they are saying is important, but I am doubtful this will happen.

7. You and me both. The corrupt republican mentality serves both parties
so well here. That's why we have one of the highest tax rates (for everything) in that nation but let huge companies like UP and ConAgra slide just so that they'll stay here. We lose at least (according to a couple articles I read) 70 to 90 million a YEAR in tax revenues that way. All legislation is passed with big business in mind. And even the local city/county issues here in Omaha are made with more influence from the Omaha Chamber of Commerce and certain wealthy citizens than overall concern for the rights and needs of all of us.

That's why Ernie Chambers fought and won the right to have the Omaha School District broken up into three parts. Because of how corrupt and partisan it is here.

Nope, this place will continue to be the red-necked bush**-supporting republican Hell hole it's always been.

11. Last election was good
They even had to send Bush out to campaign against Kleeb.

This spring we also maintained control of the mayor of Lincoln.

13. Smith was an idiot...
Kleeb should have won, but the folks in that district will vote for a painted goat as long as it's a (R). Smith is a total joke, a rubber stamp republican with no new ideas and the smarts of a brain dead monkey.

10. I agree
Ben Nelson is pretty right-wing. But at least we got to watch that idiot Pete Ricketts piss away a ton of his personal fortune only to receive 36.1% of the vote, LOL. Last election was pretty good for us.

12. I can't figure out why Ricketts even ran. Did he really believe we'd buy
that 'I'm just a regular guy' crap.

And we're still lame.
