Last October, Congress and President Bush passed the Military Commissions Act, eliminating habeas corpus -- the right to challenge unlawful imprisonment -- for some people. This new law undermines due process and America's laws against torture. It gives the President the power to decide who is and who is not an enemy of our country, and to imprison people indefinitely without charging them with any crime.
This week, we are calling for change. It's time for Congress to restore our Constitution and reassert the rights that make our country unique by fixing the un-American Military Commissions Act. A bill already under consideration -- the "Restoring the Constitution Act of 2007" -- does just that.

The ACLU and its half-million members are doing all we can to stop torture, restore habeas corpus and due process and end illegal spying. To make sure these abuses never happen again, we have just launched a radio campaign urging people who care about the Constitution to call their members of Congress and urge them to support the Restoring the Constitution Act.
