His name was Richard "Dick" Barmore, and he was a pharmacist in Lexington, Nebraska. I knew him long ago when I lived in the Platte Valley. Mr. Barmore was unfailingly kind, generous and understanding. His affiliation with the Democratic party, even his mother's affiliation with it, was so important to him that it's mentioned in his obituary.

Lex mourns death of fixture Barmore
LEXINGTON — While Barmore Drug remains as a familiar Lexington landmark, one of the smiling faces usually found within is now gone and will be missed.
Longtime Lexington pharmacist Dick Barmore died at the family’s mountain cabin in Allenspark, Colo., Monday.

The Rev. Caroline Vickery also offered examples of Barmore’s ability to care. Two years ago, Barmore and his wife, Nova, volunteered to accompany Vickery in prison ministry.
“He had a compassionate heart and charmed those he contacted. He made a positive impact,” she said.

Barrett said Barmore was a minority in Nebraska for his active support of the Democratic Party. He carried on a family tradition — his mother was once a national committeewoman for the party.
