Candidate resolving tax bills
BY ERIN GRACE

Brenda Council, an Omaha attorney and candidate for State Sen. Ernie Chambers' legislative seat, said she is clearing up two tax liens totaling more than $245,000.
She said she may end up owing much less and, in fact, could be in line to get money back from the federal government after she straightens out the larger of the two liens for $239,202. That lien, filed in February, is for federal income taxes from 2002.

Council
Brenda and husband Otha Council have not yet filed their 2002 income tax return; Brenda Council said they expect to file at the end of the month.
She gave this explanation:
In 2002, Otha Council closed his florist shop at 2418 Cuming St. He moved everything into storage. Records were lost during and after the move. The storage building was broken into, and boxes of records and equipment were stolen.
The Councils have since been trying to recreate records.
