U.S. Senate hopefuls Scott Kleeb and Tony Raimondo agreed Wednesday to hold a one-hour debate in Lincoln as both candidates continued to increase their public visibility.
Kleeb was readying his first television advertisement of the primary season, while Raimondo put up his second commercial.
The two are battling for the Democratic nomination in the May 13 primary. The race has been low-key to date, but with less than a month until the election, Raimondo and Kleeb are stepping up their efforts to connect with voters.
The winner will challenge the odds-on-favorite for the GOP nomination: Mike Johanns, a former Nebraska governor who faces nominal primary opposition from newcomer Pat Flynn of Schuyler.
The debate between Raimondo and Kleeb is set for 1 p.m. April 26 at the State Theatre in downtown Lincoln. It is expected to be the only Democratic Senate debate before the primary.
The event will be sponsored by the Lancaster County Democratic Party and will be broadcast live on Lincoln television station KLKN.
