Call it the $12 million concert.
Eugene Fodor
Eugene Fodor, one of the world's foremost classical violinists, will perform on three Stradivarius violins and one Guarneri del Gesu during an appearance in Omaha on Sept. 26.
He will perform Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons," playing a different violin in each of this Baroque masterpiece's four movements.
"These are four of the most exquisite sounding instruments on earth," said Ruth Meints, a violinist and director of the Omaha Conservatory of Music.
Fodor's concert is a fundraiser for the Omaha Conservatory. The famed violinist taught William Wolcott, a member of the conservatory faculty.
"That's how we were able to get Eugene to perform for us," said Meints. "We're grateful because this is our big annual fundraiser and it makes our conservatory happen."
Fodor will perform on his own del Gesu, which was made by the famed 18th-century Italian violinmaker Giuseppe Guarneri. The Strads, which are on loan to Fodor, were the work of fellow 18th-century craftsman Antonio Stradivari.
All four instruments are among the most valuable in the world. Christie's in New York received $3.5 million for a Strad during a 2006 auction.
The concert will take place at the Holland Performing Arts Center, 1200 Douglas St. Tickets are $30 to $125. For more information, call 932-4978.
