BELLEVUE, Neb. (AP) - Part of a Bellevue street has been renamed in honor of Nebraska Army National Guard Spc. William "Bill" Bailey III, who was killed in Iraq in 2007.
The stretch of 22nd Avenue that runs in front of the Bellevue Fire Department will bear Bailey's name. The 29-year-old was a member of the department before being deployed.
A ceremony renaming the street was held on Sunday.
Bailey was providing security for military convoys with the 755th Chemical Company near Taji when an explosive device struck his vehicle. He was killed and three other Nebraska soldiers were hurt in the May 2007 incident.
Bailey was posthumously honored with the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star, among other awards.
