I know someone that recently was lobbying for rural hospitals and they were trying to get support for a plan to re-structure how Medicare money is paid to hospitals or something like that(doesn't matter to the story) Anyway, they shopped the plan to all of the Nebraska legislators. Hagel's staff, Nelson's staff and Osbornes's staff seemed knowledgeable and were receptive. Lee Terry's staff didn't seem very interested or knowledgeable, but apparently Fortenberry's staff was just ridiculous. They got done with their pitch and the Fortenberry staff people didn't seem to have a clue. So they re-iterated the plan to try and get a better response than blank stares. Fortenberry's staff told the lobbyists to tell another legislator and maybe they would co-sponsor the plan. When they tried again to make Fortenberry's people understand they said, "Is there any way we can tie this to family values, because it's really our only issue." Unfriggin believable! They actually said that. These people have no business in the Congress! But any reasonable Nebraskan could have told you that.
