Woman charged in stabbing of dog
Felony animal abuse charges will be filed against a Bellevue woman accused of stabbing a puppy to death.
The 32-year-old was originally cited with misdemeanor animal cruelty, but Sarpy County Attorney Lee Polikov announced Wednesday that he would file the felony charge.
The woman told officials she thought the dog had died Friday night after she found it hanging over a fence by its leash. When she found the dog still alive the next morning, she stabbed it to end its suffering, she said.
A necropsy showed no signs of strangulation but did find signs of blunt-force trauma to the head, a Nebraska Humane Society spokesman said.
