I keep thinking back to 2004 when Bush's pro-nuclear waste position still didn't swing the state to Kerry. Have people in Nevada moved on or given up?
How might Yucca Mountain figure into this year's campaign, if at all?

1. The year to pounce was 2000 |

Bush was incredibly vulnerable on the issue and he knew it. But Gore idiotically didn't press it and more or less ignored this state, assuming the puny number of electoral votes wouldn't be critical.
Yucca has lost steam steadily. I remember posting on DU when I joined in fall '02 that we couldn't rely on it in '04. Outsiders don't seem to grasp that. National security became a huge issue post '01 due to the major casinos as a logical target, and info that Mohamed Atta and the other terrorists met in Las Vagas prior to 9/11.
