Help Tom Gallagher this Saturday in Las Vegas
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 12:05 PM by orlin2k
Got this e-mail today. If you want to replace Rep. Porter so we can get another seat in the House come on out.

The Gallagher campaign will be conducting a coordinated walk throughout the district, joining forces with State Senator Dina Titus’ supporters to canvass the area. If you are free for two hours Saturday from 10-12 p.m. contact JJ Buchanan <jj@gallagher2004.com> so he can provide you with the details. These door to door walks are very important to the campaign in identifying supporters and undecided voters to help our targeting efforts. Thank you in advance.

1. Gallagher won't beat Porter.....
last October, while hundreds of people were outside the Venetian protesting Bush at his $2000 a plate fundraiser, guess where Gallagher was??????? Inside, at the Bush fundraiser....his lame excuse being "I was doing a favor for a friend." I could never work for him knowing he gave money to that election-stealing, war-mongering, AWOL prick. And besides, he's a lousy candidate...I have seen him at many events, and he stands around waiting for people to come talk to him instead of pressing the flesh like a candidate does. I for one am sick to death of anoited candidates in Nevada. This guy wouldn't get my vote for dogcatcher...I won't vote for Porter, though...he is just a rubber stamp for Bush.

2. Gallagher has the best chance to beat Porter
Tom Gallagher also gave $2000 to John Edwards campaign during the primary and he and his wife have given the max to John Kerry of $4000. Yes, Gallagher is a moderate democrat, but he has the best chance of beating Porter in District 3 which just happens to lean to the conservative side. Gallagher is a strong supporter of Democratic values. He supports veterans, teachers, unions and he supports Kerry's plan of rolling back the Bush tax cut for the wealthy. I just believe he is the best candidate to beat Porter. The point is we have to get the house back from the clutches of the Republicans. Gallagher doesn't support Bush and he will be a much better representative for us than Porter.

3. Gallagher supported Bush to the tune of $2000....
and I don't consider that a Democratic value. Gallagher thinks he is entitled...he doesn't give 2 shits about any constituency...he just wants to use them. His career has been as a lawyer in mergers and acquisitions, and then as a corpotate guy, first for Merv Griffen, one of Reagan's biggest buddies, then as a gaming CEO. Don't tell me he has Democratic values. I've watched him in action, and he is an arrogant, egotistical snob. And he won't beat Porter.

4. Unfortunately, I think you are right.
Seems like another sacrificial lamb.

And porter has been non-existant for the past 2 years, too.

Late starter into the race - NO advertising.

Such a waste.

I was a pricinct captain in Henderson for Shelley's last turn in Henderson - when she demolished porter - very organized and professional.

Started working her new district last time after repeated calls to the Herrera campaign to volunteer - that was a late starter, too, and a very sad bust.

Too busy this year at work to be dependable - tomorrow is my first weekend day off in awhile - I'll be home all day except near 4/5pm.

We need to organize a SERIOUS long term candidate to take back the district starting after the 2004 campaign, otherwise, it's lost.

And dems outnumber repukes according to the latest news today.

Sigh.

I hope Gallager wins. But I doubt it too. I would love to be prooved wrong.

5. How am I suppose to believe in Tom Gallagher
I hear him on his commercials saying how he cares about the health plans etc here in Nevada.
While he was CEO at Park Place Ent he let a freak accident happen to me and left me crippled and two yrs later still fighting for medical help. I was a PBX operator at Bally Hotel and while in my break room a 40lb light fixture crashed from the ceiling onto my spine where I had back surgery ten yrs ago. I have been disabled ever since! I had to see five private Dr's on my own who of course say I am disabled do to this object hitting me. Their ONE work comp Dr says I am this way due to my surgery ten yrs ago. Well I guess its just a coincidence that I have been working full time for over six yrs and expanding my family and doing every day normal stuff and all the sudden I cant walk! Give me a break..................How could Mr Gallagher do this to me and then say he cares about Nevada peoples health issues and so on. I am barely 100lbs soaking wet and a 40lbs wooden light fixture fell on me because somebody forgot a few important screws.

7. Just as I knew he would,
Porter has already started KILLER negative ads on Gallagher...how he is a carpetbagger (which he is), worked for a big law firm that represented big oil, the nuclear industry, and even the Saudi government. And you can be sure there is more to come....the big law firm Gallagher was a partner in is none other than Gibson, Dunn, and Crutcher, the law firm of Mr. Ted Olson, who helped Bush steal the election from Gore.

This ridiculous choice of a candidate by the Democratic Party in Las Vegas could very well cost Kerry Nevada, because Dems are not going to turn out to support Gallagher. It is disgusting! We need to have Democratic candidates running as Democrats, not Republicans masquerading as Democrats.

8. Will Gallagher vote and stand with the Dems in Congress?
(if elected) That's the ONLY important question we ought to be asking re giving him our support. Doesn't matter whether he's a sleezeball or not; unless he's going to do a Zell Miller act in the next two years we need him elected anyway. In TWO recent special House elections, Dems have won, against expectations. If this trend continues--if the few "competitive" races trend Democratic--we could even take back the House.

Nevada local & state politics are weird -- politicos not running for National office seem very non-ideological. Witness Joe Neal's (whom many of my liberal friends admire for his anti-casino stance)supporting a Republican, apparently simply because he wanted to give a boost to another African-American candidate. Several aspiring politicians seem to have switched parties for no better reason than believing they had a better chance of being elected that way. Go figure!--but then according to Bob Dole, that's how he initially became a Republican, too.

Not sure I feel comfortable with such situations, but we're so into a different kind of mindset here at DU we forget that not everybody operates our way in the real world.

9. I doubt he will....
that is my concern. He keeps stressing over and over again how he is going to be independant, not necessarily going along with Dem leadership. He has too many Republican ties. As Harry Truman said, "Run a Republican against a Republican, and the Republican will win every time." That is exactly the scenario here, and I worry what that will do to Kerry in Nevada. I would love to take back the House, but I doubt Gallagher can be part of that.
