Ex-casino executive challenges Porter
By Brendan Riley
ASSOCIATED PRESS
5/11/2004 11:21 pm

Former Nevada casino executive Tom Gallagher filed Tuesday as a Democratic challenger to U.S. Rep. Jon Porter, R-Henderson, saying Porter might be “a nice man” but he’s lost touch with his constituents.

Gallagher, who filed in Las Vegas for the House District 3 seat, said Porter “has spent too much time listening to the House leadership and not enough time fighting for Nevada families.”

Gallagher said Porter should oppose unpopular provisions of the Medicare Reform Law. But Porter, a first-term representative who voted for the new law, has dismissed Gallagher’s comments as “more of the same script from Washington to scare seniors.”

Porter filed for re-election on Friday. He has no GOP opposition yet. Besides Gallagher, three other Democrats have filed or are expected to file for the House seat.

1. Gallagher is no Democrat....
although he pretends to be. He went to a Bush fundraiser here in Vegas last fall, and gave $2000 to Bush/Cheney. He used to work for Merv Griffin, a notorious right-winger. I have met him, heard him speak on more than one occasion, and he has an elitist, entilted attitude. A former CEO....just what we don't need more of in politics!

3. Positive,,,
It was in the RJ on March 19, plus he had some flimsy excuse at the Kerry meetup, to the effect that his "Repuke friends" invited him, and he wanted to see for himself what Bush is all about. Disgusting! Personally, I could have told him all he needed to know about Bush and saved him $2000 bucks!

The real Democrat is filing tomorrow:

4. Local newspaper: Gallagher donated $2,000 for Bush re-election
http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2004/Mar-21-Sun-2004/opinion/23473878.html

Sunday, March 21, 2004

"He (Tom Gallagher) shanked a bit back in November, paying $2,000 to attend a George W. Bush fund-raiser at The Venetian at the invitation of friends. Gallagher now bills it as a reconnaissance mission. "The idea that I'm funding George Bush's campaign, forget it," he says. Except that he did, to the tune of $2,000."

6. This is very depressing news.
Explains a lot.

Now all we neer is Aaron what-his-name - the carpetbagger from California to run again and we can have another circus.

And why did the Carpenters' Union give their hall to that AWOL bastard for his rally yesterday?

8. Why am I not surprised by this bit of news?
My father was a union carpenter & they are one of the most thoroughly corrupt unions in existence.

9. So check out this website....
www.votedevoe.org, and if you're in District 3, vote for this guy. He is progressive, and a visionary thinker. Plus, he is a union member and has worked for various citizen and environmental groups off and on all his adult life. If you're not in District 3, tell your friends who are.
