Progressive Pages- Need your feedback!
I just visited DancingBear's thread about wanting to come up with a directory of Repuke businesses to boycott and provide decent progressive alternatives for folks.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=2587076&mesg_id=2587076&page=

I'd like to help any way I can to compile this book.

Here's what I need from ya'll:

Give me the names and approximate locations of any local NV businesses you saw the last year or so with Bush/Cheney signs outside, behind the counters or in windows. Any "I support President Bush and our troops?" or anything equivalent?

Alternately, provide the names and approximate addresses of progressive or Democratic owned or Democratic-supporting businesses you can recommend instead.

Let us know about good AND bad experiences you've had patronizing good or bad businesses all over the state!

Thanks everybody!
Let's hear em!

1. Nu Yalk Pizza = progressive supporters
Big time progressive support inside and outside this pizza place in Reno. ACT and other groups made it out there when they could, and Nu Yalk even put up ACT volunteer stuff, as well as Democrat sticker. I know it was a good place for debate watching. I am not aware of a more vocal pro-dem business in the area. I like the pizza too.

Nu Yalk Pizza
3305 Kietzke Lane
Reno, NV.

Corner of Kietzke and Moana

7. Moana Nursery and Shenanigans: bad, Java Jungle: good
Moana Nursery has something against Dem Assemblywoman Sheila Leslie, and so they keep giving $$ to Rep Larry Martin (Larry- this time you couldn't even break 40%- when are you going to learn?) In contrast, the owner of Java Jungle did a "small business owners support" mailer for Leslie.

Oh, and this one hurts... Shenanigans- grill with a great beer selection in the same shopping center as Albertson's on Plumb- is DEFINITELY Republican.

Went there with a group of friends after the JRE rally in September. We ate a full dinner and when game on the TV was over, on came the special news wrap up of the rally. We were stoked- but the owner, sitting at the bar, told his bartender to turn down the sound. "Hey, could we hear the news, it will only be on for another minute or so..." Despite NOBODY being in the bar except for our group, the bar tender, waitress, and the owner, the owner and bar tender flat out ignored us except for telling us that "we don't do politics here." Yeah right, you mean "our" politics...

The bartender threw on a Frank Sinatra CD, and that was that. I told our waitress as we were leaving that despite eating dinner there a half dozen times a year for close to five years, we would NEVER go back. What an a##hole.

Hell yes on Nu Yalk- and they have WiFi to boot!!!

5. Looked up Scolari's...not good. What are the alternatives?
Looked up locally owned(Northern Nevada) grocery chain Scolari's on opensecrets.com. It is my understanding they also own one of the discount grocery chains called Sak N Save. They also have some stores in CA. They gave to Bush, Ensign, and Gibbons...

http://www.opensecrets.org/indivs/search.asp?NumOfThou=0&txtName=Scolari&txtState=NV&txtZip=&txtEmploy=&txtCand=&txt2004=Y&txt2002=Y&txt2000=Y&Order=N

I've also noticed that in some areas they have tiny bookstores in their stores that often play FAUX news on a TV in that area. I guess I'll be writing them this week and sending back my frequent shopper card as well. I'm glad I live somewhat close to Wild Oats.

Does anyone know anything about WinCo? They're close by too. I've heard they are employee owned, which sounds good in theory, but I don't know much else about them other than the good side their website puts forth.

10. Winco is bad too
Choosetheblue suggests Winco gave 100% to Repugs.

http://www.choosetheblue.com/main.php?backlevel=002..001Choose%20The%20Blue.002Groceries&prodcat=Grocery+Stores

If you can buy at Costco, that looks like the best option. Trader Joes and Whole Foods(I think they own Wild Oats in Nevada...can anyone confirm?) gave a dissapointingly large amount to the bad side, but are still much higher Dem and generally tend to stock brands that are more progressive/environmentally concious/organic, so there are benefits in addition to political contributions there.

9. Keeping this kicked...
The Progressive Pages are really starting to groove with all sorts of new information in multiple states!

Please help us out by providing any local businesses you can think of, good or bad. And make sure to specify which one they are when you post them!

Thanks!
