One in four Nevadans who backed Democrat Reid also voted for Bush
I read this but I still don't believe this.... it says Kerry only won in the urban area of Las Vegas ....gee, that's the only area without paper trails on their ten-yr. old e-machines. And didn't I read somewhere that Washoe County got their new Sequoias software for free from Sequoia??? The company that was first brought in to Nevada ten years ago to Las Vegas by a Republican who then quit her job to work for them??

Snip...

One-fourth of the Nevadans who voted overwhelmingly to re-elect Democratic Sen. Harry Reid also backed President Bush, a trend that doomed John Kerry's hopes in rural counties and will color both parties' future election strategies.

"I believe rural Nevada carried President Bush to victory," said Republican Rep. Jim Gibbons, who won a fifth term in Nevada's sprawling 2nd District that covers many of the so-called "cow counties."

snip...

Kerry won only in urban Clark County and by a margin smaller than Gore's. More important was how badly he lost in the rurals, even the counties Reid won.

"Washoe County and rural counties are still Republican counties, so you do your best given the cards you are dealt," said Pam duPre, executive director of the county's Democratic Party.

3. I don't know much about Reid or this site but apparently
they don't think much of him

a teetotaling Mormon (one of the most anti-gay groups in the country). A former Capitol Hill cop. A staunch opponent of abortion. A co-sponsor of the constitutional amendment to ban flag-burning.

That's right: an anti-choice, anti-free speech, anti-gay, heck even anti-beer Senator is the spokesman for the Democratic Party. Write it down. Because with his record, that might be hard to remember.

P.S. By the way, don't expect him to deliver. Reid couldn't even deliver Nevada, even though Bush broke his promise to the state and tried to dump radioactive waste in their backyard.

Newsday reports that the mass exodus of senior CIA staff is no coincidence. Bush has ordered a purge of CIA employees who don't agree with the president's agenda. As we noted below, this is incredibly dangerous. If we had a real Democratic party, they'd be all over this. Harry Reid, where are you?

5. He is not "anti-gay" - has in fact met with the "Stonewall Democratic Club
the GBLT Democratic group that I have been a member of here in metro Vegas, on many occasions, and actively seeks our support. He just doesn't go out of his way to initiate things supportive of gay causes, and he is anti-abortion. That is only a couple of my big beefs about him.

Just like Kerry, instead of SUPPORTING anti-discrimination and ACTIVELY CAMPAIGNING AGAINST DESCRIMINATION (the gay marriage ammendment), leaving it up to the states to CODIFY DESCRIMINATION if they so choose. That was the most wishy washy, fence sitting thing I ever saw.

His mormonism overides everything he does, but he is at the same time a very tolerant individual.

He still has to keep one eye on his "family" and "church" when he goes about his business.

He is THE WRONG PERSON TO CONSIDER FOR ANY LEADERSHIP POSITION. Unless, of course, the goal is to ROLL OVER for the repukes.

10. I agree totally---
I also dislike him for the crap he pulled with the Treaty of Ruby Valley. That could have singlehandedly overturned Yucca Mountain. ARGH that man makes me ill.

4. If that's really the case...
I guess Yucca Mountain as a dumpsite for nuclear waste is less of a threat than, let say...gay marriage?

6. Remember Reid is King of the filibuster and just might be
the right guy for an "opposition party" role. Which is what we are right now folks. Like it or not.

9. I believe it-
Lots of moderates really like Harry Reid. Even some Repubs like him. Also, the guy running against him wasn't very well-rounded. He was a one-issue type and the issue was gay marriage.
