Las Vegas Trip Advice
My husband and I need to be in Las Vegas for a wedding on May 29th. We will probably leave from Baltimore (BWI) on the 27th and come back on the 30th or 31st. I was just wondering if you all might have any tips on where to stay. I'd like a nice hotel on the Strip but it doesn't have to be super fancy and I don't like a lot of circus type crap. Right now I've been looking at air fare and hotel deals on Expedia and Travelocity for the MGM Grand and the Flamingo. I kind of like the idea of staying at an older hotel like the Flamingo but I'm just wondering if it's clean or if it's gotten run down.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If anyone knows which travel site has the best deals that would be great, too.

Thanks in advance. I'll probably have other questions as it gets closer to the date of the trip.

1. Don't forget to check out hotels.com
My family has gotten some good deals through them.

3. I'll check that out.
Thanks. I haven't booked a lot of trips through the internet so I'm not sure which travel sites are the best. I'll check out hotels.com.

2. Also, check directly with the hotels themselves on the internet.
I got a great deal at the pyramid hotel when I went directly to them.

The New Frontier is a little long in the tooth. The pyramind one is great. Loved the spa. Hardrock Cafe is a loud music - young person kind of place. Loved the Bellagio but didn't stay there - just ate there. The hotels are cheaper during the week, so maybe you can combine the really neat hotels with the cheaper ones depending on the day of the week.

I haven't seen any deals on it yet but I'll check out their site. I'm looking at Bally's now, too. We need something on the Strip because I don't think we are going to rent a car.

I wish we could go during the week but the wedding is on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend so we are getting stuck with Holiday rates.

6. daughter stayed at bally's last month
said it's been redone and liked it.

she's stayed at everywhere from the real cheapo places to the Bellagio and Venetian ( depending on whether her boss was generous or not ) . anyway she didn't have anything bad to say about bally's.

have fun!

9. That's good to know.
So far it's looking like Bally's has some of the best prices. I like hotels that have recently been redone because they are usually cleaner. Thanks!

5. We always stay at the Flamingo.
Our family have been there several times over the last few years and tried many places. The Flamingo is perfect for us. It is right in the middle of the strip, you can walk just about everywhere. It is very reasonable, we make our reservations directly with the hotel either on line or by phone, we have got the best deals this way. The first few trips we went through expedia and in the long run they were no cheaper and they have a certain block of rooms. When you book your own there is a wider choice and we didn't pay any more. The same goes for airfare. We have always done better going directly the the airline site and using their search for cheapest fare We really lucked out the last few trips and got round trip for $199 from Raleigh NC. This was a year ago so I guess with fuel prices it may be higher.
Our whole family enjoy Las Vegas, there is so much to do and we don't even drink or gamble! Good luck on finding a good deal and have fun!

7. I like The Flamingo also.
In the middle of all the action (but still kinda quiet) with a really neat pool area that's great for walking aroundand chilling out. I thought that the rooms were nice last year when we stayed there. That's the first place that we check when we are thinking about going.

10. Hi brystheguy.
Welcome to DU!

It's great hearing from people who have actually stayed in these places. That's two people now saying the Flamingo is nice and the location sounds good for us. I really appreciate all this input. DUers are the best!

8. Thanks!
A lot of good tips in your post. I always wondered if those package deals are really the best way to go. Thanks so much.

Anyone know what the Sahara is like?

12. The Sahara is WAY down at the North end of the Strip.
The corner of Sahara & Las Vegas Blvd is pretty seedy. And there's a ton of construction going on all around it.

You're better off at the centrally located Flamingo. They have a great pool complex as well. The Flamingo is across the street from Caesars, Bally's and The Bellagio. You're also right near The Paris and a 10 minute walk to the Venetian.

Good central location.

Warning: last summer a bunch of Flamingo employees and guests came down with vomiting. I think they cleared that up.
