Reid: Jack Carter a viable candidate against Ensign
RENO, Nev. (AP) - Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., would support Jack Carter if he runs for the Senate in Nevada next year and thinks he would have a shot at unseating Republican Sen. John Ensign, Reid's press secretary said Thursday.

Reid, the Senate minority leader, and Carter, the oldest child of former President Jimmy Carter, spoke by phone earlier this week before Carter announced he's seriously considering challenging Ensign, who's seeking a second term in 2006. Carter plans to meet with Reid's staff next week.

Carter and his wife, Elizabeth, have lived in Las Vegas since 2003, operating an investment consulting firm.

"Obviously, Sen. Reid would like to see a Democrat get in the race," Reid spokeswoman Tessa Hafen said. "He thinks Jack would make a good candidate. If he decides to run, he'll have (Reid's) support."

5. Oh yeah...
I am a sucker for second gen situations too. I was just struck by the resembalance. It really shows that the media had a real fix with/on amy that it shocks some pepole(me included) to know he even exisits.

6. Good point.
As the article stated, he was in his 20's when his father was president, so he didn't live in the WH. If one didn't delve further than the media took us, the impression would be that Amy was an only child.

10. Met with him today
He's got a good sense of humor, too. He even speaks a bit like his dad, but his voice is stonger (deeper?).

12. Is Oscar Goodman out of the picture for the Senate race?
Goodman is currently polling better against Ensign than Carter, but I think Goodman has said he will not seek the Democratic nomination. Is that right?

If so, I guess Jeff Carter is our best hope to pick up this Senate seat.

14. Disappointing turn out for that canvassing.
Only 5 of us out of 12 who said they'd show and 2 were on the staff.

Handed out English only literature in a predominantly poorer Hispanic neighborhood.

Only canvassed 5 streets - two blocks long.

Vast difference from Shelley Berkley's top notch ORGANIZED and hundreds of volunteers campaign staff.

Lack of sharing of campaign staffs is hurting the Dem Party here.

I had to back off the last couple weekends due to workloads at work - and after a heart-attack last year - the walking in 115 degree heat didn't help either.

One other volunteer walked with us with an oxygen tank to breathe.

I guess we're a real "fit" group so far!

I'll check in about volunteering more at the office - which has an actual location different from their street address listed! The address is actually their mail drop.

Let's make is as hard as possible to volunteer! Yea!

NOT a recipe for success.

Now couple that with the fact that Jack Carter lives 2 doors away from one of my very best friends and is a virtual recluse and VERY non-outgoing according to his neighbors - and I smell a recipe for defeat.

Of course, I have yet to meet him in person - so the reviews could be suspect. But from the "average joe/jane" it is not good news or a good reputation.

15. Disappointing commercials also
He's finally on the air but that commercial couldn't be more boring or forgettable. Most of the time Carter is deep in the background, taking up maybe 1/10 of the picture. It's obviously intentional but the rationale completely eludes me. Carter seems friendly but hardly dynamic.

I wish I could be more enthused about this race but I think our best shot is Gibson in the gov race. I agree Titus is more progressive but I expect Gibson to win the primary.

16. I sure hope Titus wins the primary
and in person and the road I have never seen Jack anything but outgoing. He is very well liked in the rurals, and the Dems need the rurals to help put them over the top.

18. Her new commercials are pretty good
Not a bad balance of touting herself and ripping Gibson.

I just wish the GOP had the primary fight and we were sitting back and watching it.
